Squeal at cold start and at stop
I decided to replace my serpentine belt and upper right idler pulley due to the old belt being cracked and a whistle/whirring noise on my 2004 Disco. The noise is non-existant when pressing the accelerator at all, as soon as I let up fully, the whistle/whirring sound starts in the engine area. Before the replacement, I removed the belt and checked for play in all of the pulleys. The idler had a little play in it so I figured it was worn out. After replacing both, the noise didn’t go away and now I have a crazy loud squeal when I start up and drive right away. If I let it warm up for a couple of minutes it doesn’t squeal. If I drive right away it will go away after a minute or so, then every time I stop at a stop light then go again, it squeals really loud again for 30 sec then stops. In addition, I have noticed that the engine is missing once in awhile. I’ve listened to all of the accessories and have’t heard any issues. I do have a small coolant and oil leak that I’ve noticed dripping down on the bell housing. I’m not sure what to do from here.
It sounds like you have a bad water or oil pump bearing IMO. Or possibly alternator/A/C bearing. When these things go they can be intermittent and hard to diagnose. It’s possible one is seizing and squealing here and there. Does it happen when you turn the wheel?
Rent a coolant pressure tester and diagnose your leak. Autozone has them. Don’t let it go to overheating.

Remove belt again and check to see if the noise disappears. If so, turn every pulley and look for unevenness, roughness, noise or binding. If it doesn't disappear, then you have eliminate all of the accessories on the front of the engine. And you can start checking elsewhere.

Idle air control valve. Mine does the same thing. Does it kind of sound like a kettle? Its extremely annoying but just take the hoses to it off and clean the mating surfaces and reinstall. It stopped making the noise for a year when I did that and just started doing it again this week
Thank you everyone for your input. It’s great to have such a consensus. I thought that it may have been an issue with the power steering pump as the steering was pretty tight and it seemed to squeal a couple of times when I turned the wheel. I flushed the PS and it hasn’t squealed when turning the wheel since. I’ll pull the belt to isolate the sound this weekend and pressure test the cooling system to find that leak. Can I replace the bearings in an accessory instead of replacing the entire accessory?
One last thing, it only squeals if I drive without letting it warm up, then it will do it at every stop and start during the drive. It will also stop if I turn the engine off then back on again.
If your water pump or alternator bearings are on the way out, you'll want to replace the whole shebang. A/C is less likely to have a bearing failure since it's also clutched. Not sure about the PS. I had my water pump bearing give out on me with zero notice at 293000 km, it grenaded the whole assembly

I just purchased the vehicle 2 months ago. From the records I have it doesn’t appear that the transmission and differential fluids have ever been changed. There are 109,000 miles on the vehicle.
