Inspect the u joints on your intermediate steering shaft while you are at it.

Here’s a follow up on my earlier issue. I removed the serpentine belt and started the engine. No sound at all. I turned it off and checked all pulleys again, there was a slight whirring sound on the coolant pulley and the tensioner pulley spins but doesn’t spin really smoothly or for long. The interesting part is that since I reinstalled the belt the engine hasn’t squealed once, even when I start up and drive away without letting it warm up. This would previously elicit an immediate squeal. Any ideas on why things changed?

How does the belt look? That seems like an explanation. My belt was going bad and it was intermittent, new continental elite belt, no more squeal on start up.

The belt is only 2 weeks old. I didn’t have a squeal with the old belt, replaced it with a new belt and had a squeal, removed the belt and reinstalled it...no squeal.

That’s odd. Possibly it was dirty or seated a bit off.
