Starter
2000 discovery II, would not do anything after sitting for 2 days, worked fine prior. Had power but when I turned the key nothing, just a couple relays clicking one under dash and one under driver seat. I replaced the battery.
Pulled the starter out , bench tested it and it seemed to be fine kicked in like it should etc. cleaned it up put it back in and nothing. I then turned the key on crawled underneath pulled the little red wire with the black clip off and touched a screwdriver from the large red wire from the battery to the connection where the little red wire goes and the truck started, I jumped out and turned the key off because the starter seemed to be still ingaged like when you turn the ignition when its already running, only way to get it to shut off was pull the neg battery cable. Then followed the little red wire to the fuse box under hood found 30amp fuse fried (not sure if this was like that before or after jumped the starter) I thought I had checked that earlier. anyways no parts store open late so I put a clip in where the fuse goes and stuck a cheap screwdriver looking power detector in the connection where the little red wire comes into the fuse box turned the key and it started but again would not turn off without disconnecting the neg battery cable. I did put another 30amp fuse in and it fried that one too. Can I rule out the starter?

Sounds like you either have a poor connection or your starter solenoid (which is attached to your starter) is going bad. If you're confident you have tight and clean connections and your wires are going where they should, I'm calling this one a faulty starter. Stop jumping the starter with a screwdriver. Keep up that trick and you'll be needing a new flywheel.
i would say no. the solenoid on the starter may be keeping the starter engaged. the actual starter motor may be fine, but the solenoid controls it. that may be why it pops the fuse. I am just thinking out loud here.....I agree with hot chick picture guy right above me. You will definitely ruin your flex plate quick! NO MORE CLIPS IN THE FUSE BOX! British electronics have a hard enough time with proper parts (smiley face)
