I am on my 3rd starter in 4 years. All where OE Bosch rebuilds. This past time I went to a local auto electrical shop that rebuilds starters/alternators

Yep, no sure if my bad luck or what here. I typically will only purchase OE parts to reduce the risk or bad quality parts. I don’t think it my truck (wiring, mechanical) and I do have the stock heat shield installed.

I got a Bosch rebuild from O'Reilly's in Feb 2021 and never had issues with it. I had a sluggish start sometimes, but it turned out it was a bad ground connection.

@Discorama I am hoping mine is a bad ground too, but I think she is just dying

My issue each time was intermittent no crank. No click or anything. Last time for sure I thought it was something else (ignition switch, relay, wiring) but it turned out to be another failed starter. Good thing is that the Bosch rebuild carries a two year replacement. I kept that as a spare.

I bought this one for one of my trucks 14 months ago. No issues so far. I second the rebuilding of the factory unit however. Those shops are getting harder to find but that's likely the best path if it's an option.

@ahab that is one I was looking at. It is pretty filthy down there so a clean up is in order 1st.

That's hilarious, I avoid OEM anything on these because of their long track record of being bad quality lol
