Question Starting Issue?

I have a 2002 LR Disco II with 131000 miles.

I just replaced the wires and plugs with parts recommended here.

I still have a problem with starting which has been happening since last June after I towed a pop up camper about 200 miles. When I go to start the the truck cold, it takes 3 times for the engine to kick over. Warm, I can shut her down and restart it right away.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

K

Check your fuel rail pressure cold (and hot). It could be a fuel pressure regulator that is leaking down overnight. If the rail pressure is good, it could be any number of items that can "solve" themselves when warm, like bad injectors, bad electrical connections to the injectors, poor connections to the coils (not the plug wires, the harness connections).

This is assuming that nothing else is happening that you didn't menton, like losing coolant. Or low voltage/weak battery causing it to crank too slowly.

I'm sure others will have some ideas as well.

No issue with losing coolant or a weak battery. It cranks very strong. It is 3 times every time. I can crank it for 10 seconds or 1 minute each time, but it still takes 3 times, leading me to believe it is a sensor of some type.

You need to do 2 things next time this happens.
First is to check for spark.
If that is good then check for fuel pressure at the engine.

Also you can try to turn the key on and let it sit in the on position for a few seconds to make sure the fuel is primed. Then turn the key all the way to try and start it.

It's weird you say 3 times though. That's odd the way you described it. Could be something else that has nothing to do with spark or fuel. Maye someone else can chime in.
