Default Steel Seal for Disco 2

As we all know, D2s are well known for having head gasket failures. So I thought that there should be a way to prevent them. Then I found this video on YouTube from Scotty Kilmer (famous dude apparently). He says to use this stuff called Steel Seal in the coolant so that once a head gasket leak starts to form, this stuff can start to seal it before it's too late. My only gripe is that it's really expensive ($100+). So maybe it's better as a last resort kind of thing. What do you guys think? Is this snake oil? Has anyone used this before?
Thanks.

Snake oil. Replace your head gaskets at regular intervals. There is no liquid fix that is superior to doing the job right. If you are stranded and need to get home, go for it.

That's what I thought. It must be too good to be true. A bottle can't make up for a whole day of proper work.

IdK about Steel Seal but that K-Seal is good stuff and it works the same way. You can carry it around in your toolbox and use for emergency but you will find that it will hold damn near forever if your gasket let loose at the outer edge of the water jacket. If the gasket faults in between cylinders or on the edge of the combustion chamber, I don't know. Probably a different story but for one of those little drips at the back of the engine, I can vouch for it.

i gotta believe that long before i resort to adding chemicals to my coolant, i'd just get a quality coolant temp gauge or alarm like ultra gauge - and have it alert me when the temp gets beyond 230F or something crazy high like that..

I get it that it's an interesting idea tho.

Not a bad idea to bring along some cayenne pepper or inexpensive K-Seal type product. If a leak develops away from home and you do monitor the temps, frequent stops to replenish the system can become quite old fast if a thousand miles away and you want to get home.
