I had the OME on my D1 with the rest of the HD lift kit and I was really happy with it. Honestly I don't think you'll notice a difference between the 2 brands when it comes to a steering damper.

By how tight, do you mean how tight should the bolts be or how difficult to move the piston inside the damper?

The bolts you tighten to within the torque range for the size. There are bolt torque tables on internet.
I don't remember how the piston was on my OME that I had on my Disco. It got all beat to hell so when I moved the damper to the front, I replaced it with a Bilstein which was very tight. In fact it was a bit of a struggle to compress it to install.

The Rave manual states "tighten to 125 Nm (92 lbf.ft)"

My vote is for the OME simply cause you never seem to have to wear them out.

If you go with OME, you can lift with springs later. If you go with Bilsteins, they are too short to lift. That said, I got a heck of a deal on Bilsteins and like them. I also have an OME stabiliser. Loads better than factory.

WTF?
92 lbft is 14lbft higher than that for a 7/16" grade 8 bolt. And the damper fixings are only 5/16" or 3/8"
The Rave manual doesn't even provide a torque spec for the steering damper fixings.

I went OME and you could instantly tell the difference over stock. I have heard nothing but good things about Blistine too. I would just stay away from the Terafirma.
