Need a lot more information then what you gave, year, model, mods and type of wheeling for starters.

Well since you are new to off roading and there are no mountains or huge rocks here in MI I would put my money elsewhere.
But if you really want one or the other then get the steering guard, so if you hit a log your steering will be safe.
The diffs are pretty sturdy, your biggest threat will be sand/water in your u-joints.

Ok, for here in MI all you really need is a good set of A/T's, something like the Cooper Discoverer S/T's that I have, the General Grabber AT2 are 2 great examples.
A M/T will suck *** in the snow, they are made from a harder rubber to take the abuse of rocks and such but rubber gets hard when it gets cold so mud tires will be really stiff in the winter and be almost dangerous on ice.
A lift really is not needed but if you want one then go for it.
Sand ladders would be a good investment, I already have a set and I throw them in my FedEx van in the winter time.
Rock sliders would be good, they will protect your door sills from logs if you drive over any.
A winch would be a big plus, we have mud and deep sand as well as some steep hills, and up north the cell phone reception sucks the hairy twins so if you get stuck you are on your own.
Here is what I am going to do to my truck, winch bumper and 9,000lbs winch, rock sliders, HD rear bumper, rear ladder and safari roof rack.
I may do a snorkel, I dont know yet.
I will also add under armor, steering guard and fuel tank guard, maybe diff guards but I dont know.
Once all of this is done I am going to have my truck painted with zebra stripes, so I am going for looks as well as function.
I am also going to add limb risers and prob lights on the roof rack, which then means that I will need a hood black out kit.
I think the under armor will be one of the last things that I add as it just is not really needed here in MI but I do plan on driving my truck to Moab and the like once I retire, maybe sooner if I am lucky.
I am going to copy and paste this to the forum so that others who may be interested can chime in/learn.
But feel free to keep the e-mails coming and I will copy and paste what might be relevant to others.
