Default Steering Wobble

Bought a Discovery and the steering wheel wobbled like hell. Put better tyres on and it was much better. Had the tracking done and better still. There's still a bit of a wobble though. Mind you, I only changed one of the front tyres as the other still had a bit of life. Could this be the prob?

I had some nasty steering wheel wobble at about 50 mph. I repacked the bearings when I did the brakes and it drives perfect now.

What year and how many miles on the truck? Does the whobble start up after hitting a bump?

Thanks for the replies. I don't recall it doing it after going over bumps (will keep an eye out for it now though) but it generally tends to happen mainly between 60mph and 70mph. Sometimes it'll do it a lot and then the next day I'll drive along the same stretch at the same speed and it won't do it at all. Strange that!

Check the Panhard Rod bushings. Often the one at the end of the rod closer in proximity to the steering box is gone due to P/S fluid leaking on it. This Panhard Rod determines lateral location of the front diff, and can create a steering wobble if its moving about. Also check your steering dampner. Read my section referring to steering at http://www.eurotekapg.com/str.html

At higher mileages, you may have a combination of factors causing the wobble.

I had very similar issue with a '95 at about 100K miles. Ended up needing a tie rod replacement. See the Suspension forum for details of what I did.

The landrover is an 'L' Reg which I think makes it 10 years old. Ref bumps, nothing at slow speeds but at higher speeds it lasts for a few yards.
A further thing is that my diffs are weeping slightly (I havn't checked how much it's lost) and could that have something to do with it?

Take it to an alignment shop and let then determine what is wrong with it.

An alignment shop? Not sure we have them in the UK.
I do wonder if the leaking diff may have something to do with it. Is it expensive replacing the seals?
Is repacking the bearings a big job?
