Default Stepper Motor

Done anyone know if there are any other brand or types of stepper motor that would fit in a 1996 LR dicsovery. I am not sure if it is the problem so I would prefer not to spend the big money to buy it from LR. Thanks

Very unlikely that your stepper is bad. What is your concern ?

Whats a stepper motor then? Would that be the alternator, (the big magnet and coil thing)

What is the problem, describe what is happening and you never know, someone here might know what is wrong, or what to check for first.

As said by mike its the intake air control valve. I know there is a Chev IAC that will fit on the 3.9 but not the 4.0. The reason I think it is the stepper motor is that the vehile did not idle most times when started warm. It would start and then just quit. I tried just turning up the idle and it works when the stepper motor is malfunctioning but then idles too high when it works. So the one time it worked I disconnected the wiring to the stepper motor to freeze it in that position and now it idles fine. Hence the stepper motor. I know the idle air will not be accurate with change of altitude or exterme temperature changes, hence I want to replace it.

yea don't know of any other manuf. that will work, you could try eletrical contact cleaner on the MAF and get it nice and clean and see if that helps any.

yep, and it is between the throttle body and the air filter, search a search enginge for "MAF cleaning" and it will come up with a bunch of info for you on doing it, it is easy. a lot of websites will tell you to use carb cleaner but you will be better of using eletrical contact cleaner in a spray can. good luck
