Stolen cats on a 04 discovery 2
It's been a long time that i have been on this forum. Hope everyone is doing good.
Last week on a beautiful sunny day i had my catalytic converter stolen (during daytime) at the parking lot i have been using the last 2 years.
Pipes were sawcut on both sides and the cats were gone. The 2" lift certainly made it easier for the crackheads to roll under the car.
V8 raw sound made me jump off my seat and my heart dropped when i cranked the key. Thought the train was coming at me head on.
Long story short i had both cats, Y pipe. And 2 O2 sensors replaced at local reputable LR shop.
Question:
Anyone has come up with a way to protect the cats, steel cables, chains or skid plate that covers the cats?
I see a few options on line but those are way to expensive for what they are, and not to mention ugly, bulky and in my opinion, risky if anything get cought on those sagging cables.
Calling upon your genius to come up with a solution!!
If not for the cost or the environment (haha)..... Do it to save the lives of owners or bystanders with cardiac conditions.

lol for reals this happened? I can't imagine living in a place where my cats might ever get stolen. Never heard of it, this is a first. If mine were cut out and stolen, I would have had it straight piped and then I would have used mini cats for the rear o2 sensors. No engine lights, no cats to get stolen.

Stolen cats are pretty common. Big money in it, but bigger risk than there used to be. I recycle stuff like that fairly often and when you bring in cats they take down your license number and what the cats came off of. I've heard of 15-20 vehicles being hit at one time on car lots.
As for protecting them... No idea. I can imagine that being pretty startling though!

Now that's what l call a guard dog. Why go through all of the bother of chasing them down, chewing them up...when you can put a bullet in them from a hundred yards...lol.
But, all joking aside...l've been working on a duel skid plate, one that runs beneath each exhaust pipe between crossmembers. Basically a steel channel that will be heavy enough to support rig when high centered, but open in between...so you can grease drive shaft.
Brian.
