I stand corrected. I didn't know non-SLS ACE equipped DII's were ever available in the US.

I wish my '95 didn't have sunroofs, though I found two manual ones to retrofit, so that's a decent compromise.

The best part is when people get in my car and ask where the hell the sunroofs are, as the headliner still has the depressions meant to be cut out. I heard much about the sunroof problems way before I got a disco so they were out of the question.

I hadn't really heard about the problems, but the R-380 was more important to me than anything else when I was looking in 2001 so even if I had I'd have probably bought it anyway. Especially since I got the sellers to come down about 30%..

I'd take an R380 with sunroofs any day.

Hey guys I honestly did not intend on creating such an uproar or any opposition to the notion of me obtaining the ACE system. I like ALL of you guys and I dont want to start or fuel a fire. I just want the system, one way or another. Yes I'm young and still have much to learn about working on my truck, but as I complete more projects and acquire more tools my experience grows - you cant hold the caliper bolt size thing against me forever guys, give me a break here. I only needed a 12 point socket kit (which I did not have at the time). Right now I have no clue how to install or repair an ACE system or anything like that, but one day I hope to learn how to do so and perform even more complicated projects like complete engine removal/replacement and engine rebuilds. I have high ambitions for my truck or my future Disco.

I appreciate all the feedback from everyone and its good to see that strangers care enough to advise me against spending to much $$$$. With that said I'm keeping all options open. Weather I keep my current truck, buy a second Disco with ACE installed and have 2 trucks, or trade my Disco for an ACE fitted truck or even a retrofit. Im keeping all my options open. In the mean time I will continue to love and cherish my truck and work on accomplishing all the repairs/maintenance.

On another note I truly believe that having the ACE, SLS, TC, Diff Lock, Dual Sunroofs, Improved handling, Parking Sensors.... all these innovative systems are what separate Land Rovers from most other typical less sophisticated 4x4 Sport Utility Vehicles. If you desire a simple rugged, easy to work on 4x4 with few or no computer systems on board than sell your Rover to someone who will appreciate it and buy yourself a older Toyota, Jeep or Mercedes G Wagon. Let "US" deal with all the innovative computer systems that Land Rover has to offer. Still further, Land Rover has always been on the leading edge in the 4x4 industry so I expect nothing less when it comes to all these new systems. Thats what makes Land Rover what it is, sure their older systems are flawed and have many bugs but routine maintenance of your vehicle will reduce failure rates. Downswapper himself said that hes been using the ACE for years and still no major problems with it and his truck is older than mine!

The ACE along with the redesigned style cues of the 04 are what made me fall in love with the Disco Series 2....... I dont mean to insult anybody here and again I appreciate all your thoughts on the subject, but lets also respects eachothers varied opinions. To every man his own. If I dont get it now then FINE, I can wait, I can be patient and I can keep myself busy with other more important mechanical projects on my truck. Still have to complete the 130K service list (Mikes List). Lets just all get along. Ill shut up about the ACE for now.........

PS: If it comes down to me retrofitting my Disco then I will hire a fellow LR enthusiast to help me with the project.

I'll drink to that. Though I would contest that the only gismo's that make the Disco special to me is TC, body style, Diff lock, and even the dual moon roofs I always though they were cool. Though I hardly use them in fear of breaking them. Manual moonroofs would be a sweet feature if possible to add on the D2. SLS is just going to break and be expensive when you just could have had a lift and sweet tires to begin with. One of the nice things about the Discovery to me is that it is a very DIY vehicle and really not that complex, which is really nice in comparison to LR3/4 and range rovers. The D2 just has some design flaws and wasn't really engineered for the long haul imo, at least the 4.6 imo.

I run SLS on my DII, and at first, it was a pain. But I replaced both air springs with high quality Arnott units, and visually inspected just about every inch of air line that I could see. Everything looks to be in good shape. The only thing I ever worry about is my compressor going out, and I have a spare sitting around from a donor rig anyway. I make sure to carry at least one spare spring, the tools needed to change it, some Rescue Tape (which I've used to seal air and hydraulic lines - temporarily - before) and my portable compressor with me at all times. Helps that I have some drawers to store it all in too.
