SLS is just going to break and be expensive when you just could have had a lift and sweet tires to begin with. One of the nice things about the Discovery to me is that it is a very DIY vehicle and really not that complex, which is really nice in comparison to LR3/4 and range rovers. The D2 just has some design flaws and wasn't really engineered for the long haul imo, at least the 4.6 imo.
Thanks man. Actually none of the Discovery models were designed very well. According to a source, the Discovery was built with BIG emphasis on "the parts bin"! Many of the parts and componets of the Discovery were taken from other vehicles and mixed together. LR never put much quality or consideration into the engineering or design of the Discovery. Spent most of their time with the "Range Rover" and made it the top notch top of the line high quality flagship of the company. I still love my Disco and the Discovery is my favorite LR model of all time, but I do wish LR put more time and quality into the Discovery..... I dont mind the Range Rover but part of me kinda frowns on it.

True it has its flaws but despite the parts bin make up I think the DII is mechanically solid. The transmission and t-case will last forever. While the engines do leak, they are push rod V-8's and anyone with drive(and no other choice lol) will learn how to change the gaskets. But once service these things will go and keep going.
