Default Strange noise in D2

I was on my way to class today and noticed a noise coming from the engine area/front wheels. The only way I can describe the noise is the low pitched sound pidgeons make... Lol. Anyways, I could only hear the noise when I had the gas pedal depressed. It did not matter if it was lightly depressed or more heavily depressed, although it seemed to get louder the higher the revs. As soon as I let off, the noise would stop. I figured it may be a belt, but when I parked and opened the hood and tried revving it again I could not hear the noise, so it appears that it only occurs while the truck is in motion. I'm lost as in what this could be. Any ideas?

Driveshaft, wheel bearings or even the diff. If it only makes noise while the pedal is pushed. Might try listening harder with the windows down. I would also make sure your centering ball is greased ( along with the u-joints) and check the fluid level in your diffs and X-fer case.

Have you greased your TX driveshaft? I have heard of people breaking theirs becasue they didn't grease properly. You have to drop the shaft and grease the centering ball too... Whatever you do, stay off the highway until you find the problem.

If you have never had the front drive shaft rebuilt/replaced and it only has 1 grease fitting on it, stop driving it today cause it is about to fail and it will take out your tranny at the same time.u

I just greased it less than a week ago for the first time since I've had it. It's been on for around 4 months now. I didn't pull it to grease the centering ball though, I just greased the 3 (or 4) points. I went through some thick mud yesterday and haven't had a chance to wash anything off yet, idk if that could cause the noise. It's never happened before tho, so I figured it wasn't related, especially since the noise only started this morning. I haven't change the diff fluids or the tranny since I've had the truck (a little over a year now) I've been meaning to get to it, just haven't found the time yet. I'll do both today.

yes change the diff fluids and the tranny and transfer case and re-grease those u joints now you got everything muddy. you need to grease them at every oil change.

Pay close attention to the centering ball. it is what has failed on people that didn't grease right.

Synthetic oil on your driveline fluids will hold up better.

Hi, I have a TW as well. How exactly do you grease the centering ball?

Didn't read the small print.
I am now concerned that he did not grease the shaft when new, that is a must with all new drive shaft installations.
Let us know what you find.

You are right Mike, I did not grease it before I installed it. It looked to be greased already, so I figured that it was fine until my next oil change. I am about to drop it and grease the centering ball because I didn't do it last week. I am also going to change the diff fluid and t/case as well. I looked around on a couple other threads and figured I should use 75W/140 for the gears and t/case, is this right? Any specific brand to buy?

Back to the noise issue, I drove back home from class (about 10 miles), and kept it under 35 the whole way back. The noise continued until about halfway back home, when it completely stopped. I couldn't hear it at all with windows up or down. The truck seemed to return to normal. Ill take it for a drive after I get this work done to see if it returns. I'm still stumped as to what it was though.
