... not good. drop the shaft and inspect the centering ball, you need to grease the centering ball kit and re-install and hope its not destroyed. that grease it comes with is merely for shipping purposes.

I have a D1, not really sure. I know you have to drop the shaft, find the fitting and use a needle fitting on a grease gun.

Did your shaft not come with instructions for greasing?

No instructions, I just learned from the forum to grease the 3 zerks.

Alright, i got the ds out, and the centering ball looks fine. I'll regrease the u-joints along with the centering ball. I'm assuming I should just get some grease around the centering ball and in the socket, that seems to be the only way to grease it. I won't have time to do the tranny flush, the drain screw is rounded out, but I will change out the fluids in the t/case and diffs. For some unknown reason all my local autozone had was dino oil, I know the d2's come stock with synthetic. Will it cause any problems not using synthetic?

There should be a flat zerk for the centering ball. I don't have one, so I can't take a pic. You will need a needle fitting that goes on the end of a grease gun to get it. Looks kinda like a pencil. Do not just slather grease in there. There is a fitting...

Ok, found this. Right below where #9 is pointing, that is the fitting you need to grease...

I didn't see any kind of fitting like that... How about you Torancis?
I read your reply a little late, I did just slather some grease in there. I took it out for a drive and still no more noise.
I took a quick video of the noise on my way home before it stopped, you'll have to turn the volume up to hear it well.

OMG discoinchatty, that is the exact same sound I am getting in my 04. It happened about a week ago and would sound intermittently.

I was thinking it could be a wheel bearing or some sort b/c I took the truck to a mechanic for my new brake install and the guy was just pounding the front rotors like crazy b/c its rusted and wouldn't come out.

I'm thinking he probably busted some of the bearings.

Other than that, I've just greased my TW 3 days ago. Can't find the grease fitting for the centering ball. I will looking again tomorrow.

you can get the grease gun accessory kit from HF for like $10. It has all the grease fittings you will ever need.

Now that i've listened to it a few more times I think you may be right torancis. Let me know if you find anything out. Has it come back at all since you first heard it?

The sound hasn't come back for the last couple days. I am trying to figure out if it has to do with the warm weather over here.

Lets keep each other updated
