strange noise while reversing WTF?
2001 DII
100,000 miles
Up to date all fluids new prop shaft
Okay so i was parked on slightest incline in my driveway same place i always park. I put truck in reverse to back out and heard a clicking sound as i started to move about three feet in reverse pressed on brake checked to make sure i was in gear all the way and i was so i put in drive pulled forward a few feet and tried again this time no noise? This is the first time i ever heard a noise and i bought this new.
Any thoughts as to the noise?
It was more if a plastic clicking sound vs metal sound

Yes, covered in first line stating up to date on all fluids and new prop shaft
no metal chunks ever. fluid changed on or before lr maintenance schedule calls for always from day one.
I use lrn 13754 in trans and lro 19727 in diffs the only part of my truck that is not factory is the front shaft anything that has been changed for preventive maintenance has been replaced with land rover only parts.

Its only happened once so far?
Dont worry about it, it needs to happen more than once before we can investigate, could have been a stick stuck in the wheel well.
A cat toy in the engine fan, could have been anything.
Are your neighbors missing any of their kids?

But was the t-case all the way in gear?
Short story, driving to work while climbing a hill on the highway I hear a faint metallic rattle/ringing, its winter time, so its dark.
Noise goes away once I level out.
Next day, no noise, weeks go by, noise happens again.
Turns out it was my work van keys laying against the t-case shifter and the strain of climbing the hill was making the t-case shifter vibrate and the keys were vibrating thus the noise.
Moved keys, no noise.

Don't figure since it has only happened once it won't do it again, cause it could and if it does you need to take it more seriously. My money would be on the t/case cause the tranny, for the most part won't make the noise you described.
Thanks Mike i will be changing the t-case fluid again today to look for any signs of shavings or grit. I hope it was just somehow not in gear all the way, i know better than that and fear the worst when i hear any clicking sounds.
