Default Stripped Spark Plug Hole

So how do you go about fixing a stripped plug hole on the block? It never ends...

Ouch.

Two choices.

1: http://www.besly.com/images/catl2315s.jpg
2: Flat bed it to a good machine shop, or mechanic.

That sucks big time.

Wow that sucks. Probably have a professional do it because if your an ametuar tape and die person you'll get shavings in the cylinder - not good.

You tap the hole for a helix (insert) then a set of threads is lock
tighted in place.
The bad part is you have to pull the head to do this.

I think British Atlantic has rebuilt heads.

I thought the heads are Aluminum and can't be tapped. Is that not so?

Good news is I got a thread chaser more than halfway through before it stopped. I could have gone further, but with my luck it would have broke off inside. The spark plug is in, but not seated all the way, but very tight. If I'm lucky, the head gaskets will go and my Extended Warranty will pick up the cost. (Yeah, right.)

Jamie,
How many miles on this engine?
I am not sure how well the coil will hold up in an alloy head, you may be better of buying a used head.
Here is a good link with the right prices.

When you do the repairs, make sure to pull the other head and replace the head gaskets at the same time as well as new Magnacor 8 mm plug wires.

In a aluminum head there is a chance that the pressure can blow out
the insert and plug with a Big Bang.
I had this happen in a air cooled VW after that it a new head.
