Default Stuck or broken #5 radio button

I have a 99 DII with the Harmon/Kardon CD/cassette system. My #5 radio button is stuck or broken! It's very frustrating! The button is stuck in the depressed position and/or something is broken and the button is loose in its fitting. As you all know, our trucks let us know every bump and seam we drive over and the bouncing keeps engaging the button. The other buttons are stiff and firm, but the #5 button is loose and rattles. What can I do to fix this?

Can the button be pulled and fixed somehow? If I pull the head unit (grrr, special tools, tracking down the radio code, etc.), can the faceplate and the buttons be removed from the main unit to repair this button?

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem with the # key in my LR3

Pull the radio out and take the plastic face cover off (few small screws and then it snaps on/off - remove the volume control **** first). From there you will see how all the buttons work etc. There is a very small plastic cap and rubber bushing for each button, it's probably broken/bad. You can replace it by rigging up something to resemble it's functionality. You will have to use your imagination, these are very small pieces...but they are serviceable.

To remove the radio you will need the tool. It's 9 bucks over at AB's Website. I highly recommend it. Without it, trying to get the radio out is a pita...

With the tool, the radio comes out in seconds.

Also, you will not need the code. It's already unlocked.

Oh and if it's fubr or you mess it up in the process. Head over to Ebay and order a replacement for 100 bucks off a verified seller.
