Default Stuck on rebuilding or selling.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted some opinions on keeping or selling my Disco II. It’s run good I need to fix a oil leak and the O2 sensor. Nothing to major on that part. But the interior needs some love and a new paint job plus some cosmetic pieces. Is it worth it to keep and fix up or would I be dumping a ton of money into it.

Cheers!

How many miles? Where are you located? Thought about a wrap or Plasti-Dip? Are you going to do the work yourself or pay a shop?

Most of the work will be done in a shop. I live in a apartment and the frown upon doing car work. I want to pain it and wood panels. And to answer your question I’m in Colorado.

wood panels?

oil leak? could be major or minor or leave it alone...

if the frame is good, I would rehab it....probably in area of 3-4g's when all done...

Where in CO? There are two fantastic shops in the Denver area that are indy shops but they are not cheap...Roadside Werx and JCs British 4x4. I almost don't order parts online anymore and just swing by Roadside, if they don't have it then they can get it the next day. Also, they part out a bunch of rovers and have just about any random used part you might need.

I sent both an email about the inline thermostat kits so they could stock them if they want, next time you are in there you might mention it. Still a lot of Disco owners out there that never go on the forums so they don't know the benefits.

You're right next to both shops basically. I'd have them do the O2 sensor and diagnose the oil leak if you aren't able to track it down and then see if they have any good used interior bits that you can install on your own time.

Here’s my two cents. Personally, I wouldn’t own a disco if I wasn’t at least going to take a stab at the work myself. I think I’d be penniless if I had to pay someone to do the work and that’s having spent ~$17k on my disco.

I think a couple of questions to ask yourself

1) Is this a hobby that your passionate about or something else?
2) What is your budget for the vehicle? Now double it. Do you still feel good about sticking with it?
3) Lastly, take a look at the frame. If it’s rusted but your still passionate about ownership, there are lots of rust free discos in Florida that may be in better shape so maybe you cut your losses and get one in better shape.

Good luck in your discussion!

The frame is solid and so is the body no rust can be found. I bought it when I lived in Georgia. The plastic on the body however is bad from the heat. From what everyone has told me it might be in my best interest to sell it because I don’t have a area to do major work on it. So I guess I need to find a buyer now.
