So my disco isn't starting. Everything in great shape other than this problem i cant seem to find. It wants to but its not getting any gas. I Changed the pump because I thought thats what it was. Still nothing. I'm not sure what to do next. I don't think its the mass flow sensor. Does anyone have any specific suggestions as to what I should check next. This is causing me a great deal of stress Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you try resetting the fuel pump inertia switch under the bonnet?

 

Check to see if you are getting spark. No fuel and no spark usually point to a bad CPS.

Many have said that Autozone part SU5570 is a reboxed Bosch OEM sensor.

 

Yep if it turns over, but doesn't fire up it certainly can be the crank position sensor. Auto Zone normally always has at least one in stock for 64.00 and yes I can confirm with Red5 that it's a Bosch sensor.

 

ok so today we pulled the fuel pump again. still not it. put a code reader on it and got 1668, which is the immobilized alarm thing. Pulled the mass airflow sensor, works fine. hit it with starting fluid. checked codes again, got mass air sensor codes sense we had it unplugged. and now we have bought the cranks positing sensor from autozone and going to try that now.

 

You need fuel and spark. I'm not seeing anywhere that you tested for spark, which would be the first step. Pull a plug and crank it and see if it sparks. The starter motor turning the flywheel of course doesn't mean you have spark.

Did you test the fuel pressure via the port? There are special tools for these things, but you can rent them from auto parts stores pretty cheaply. Much cheaper than throwing parts at it till it works.

I assume you reset the inertia switch. You got an alarm code. Did you investigate that further?

 

As stated you need to know if you have spark and fuel. On the back of the intake is a Schrader valve. You cant see it but if you reach behind the intake and feel in the center toward the driver's side youll feel it. It works like a tire inlet. You simply push it in to tell if you have fuel pressure built up. If you do have fuel then pull a plug and turn it over to see if you have spark. Of course smell the plug first to see if it had fuel on it.


If you have the immobilization code I don't believe it will fire up until that's unlocked....read the sticky above in How to!

 

it starts up just fine when we spray starter fluid but just dies shortly after

 

You say you changed the fuel pump. Did you check the relay under the hood?

 

I wasn't clear on whether it started with mass air flow unplugged or not. I had my mass air flow go bad and the truck would not start but if I unplugged the mass air flow it would start and run, albeit a little rough and rich. Ordered a new MAF and all was good.
