Suggestions for a replacement window regulator roller or slider
I've tried a couple of different ways of rebuilding my broken window regulators (both front and one rear door) on my 2002 Disco. I couldn't find a plastic patio door roller that fit well, so I ended up using a couple of metal fender washers side by side and some smaller washers to act as a spacer.
I then fastened with a steel stud/screw combination I found at Ace hardware (I used a 1/4" bolt with the head ground down on my first attempt). It works with a bit of grinding off of the the screw head on the end of the screw/stud combo that is inside the slider, but, The combination of washers and fasteners.allows for too much play so the window does not go up all the way
I can actually see between the top edge of the window and the lower edge of the black weather seal in the door.................so..........its about 1/8" or 1/4" low at the full upward position and I don't see any way to adjust it.
Can anyone suggest a better roller or slider to use in the regulator?? I have looked thoroughly at my local Lowes, Home Depot and Ace Hardware,....so unless you have a brand name and part number,....dont send me back there,.....they dont have anything that will work.

Don't get me wrong, as I love finding ways to fix things on my own (It makes me feel triumphant! LOL!), but why not simply buy a new regulator? I am not a fan of this as I am on mySECOND NEW one on my driver's door and first new one on the front passenger's door of my '02 Disco, but after a while I just wanted to be able to use my windows! Just my curiosity, is all.
Since you asked,....I guess you didnt notice in the first line of my question that I have 3 broken regulators. If I can repair each one for an hour in labor and and $10 in parts., That is the way I always prefer to go. Im assuming regulators are $100 to $200...........Ive been unemployed for 11 months..............so $300-$600 in new regulators plus the new oxygen sensors, and new door lock actuators.............is just not an option. (you asked, now you know)

No, I did notice that you had three broken ones, but, owning a LR, I didn't find that particularly odd. I had two broken ones at the same time 'til about two weeks ago. I can appreciate your situation, but you didn't include that last part in the first post. Now, I know.
I found this, I will probably try this on my passenger side window. It goes down fine, but when going up it stops about 1/2 inch from the top then I have to push up on the glass while pushing the button. I'd rather not spend over a hundred dollars for more lousy quality parts.

Managed to pop round window roller back into my 95 RRC regulator ok but got to thinking that I should have spares and these don't seem to exist separately from the regulator...subsequently stumbled across window rollers from a company and after sending for it, it appears that it will work but it is untested...if anyone would care to have the company's url and a pic of the roller they sell for $5 US, let me know,
Cheers

I had one of the plastic roller thiniges fall apart on me a few weeks ago and the window would not move up or down. After taking the door panel of and unscrewing the regulator allowing it to move around a bit, I noticed one of the plastic pieces was jamming the mechanism from sliding. I removed it, screwed the regulator back in place and tested the window without the plastic roller. Works like a champ! The only way I notice is that when rolling up/down the window, it leans a bit forward or backwards, but once it closes all the way, it straightens out. Now, I am sure this is not recommended, but it was raining and I did not want to keep the window open in the jammed position. I haven't gotten around to ordering the metal ones that you never have to replace again and now that it has been working without any roller for a while.... Why would I?
