Default sunlight sensor

Has anyone replaced their sunlight sensor on the center dash near the windshield? Mine is busted. I don't see any wires or plug-in there either.

I tried fishing around in the area where the sensor is supposed to be for the plug-in harness but could not find it. Would I be able to get at this
harness if I remove the stereo head unit?

I checked the RAVE and there is nothing specific to removing it or replacing it. Perhaps a service manual would outline how to do this...

thoughts anyone?

just watched a dude on youtube take a D1 apart to get the dashpad and air conditioning ductwork piece off. I'm assuming the latter is the piece
that is broken on mine. what a royal PITA that looks to be. a multi-day job.

well....I'll be dipped in dog****. found the sensor and wiring harness/plug down under the facia using my borescope....

now to figure out how to fish it out. may have to cut out a section of the facia (it's already all cracked up anyway)...

They really are quite easy to replace. The hard part is if the tab is “out” too much, and then it won’t want to come out and will most likely break when you pry on it.

It is a simple plug and play once you get it out. But be careful, as that plastic up there around where the defrost vents are can break really easily. I replaced my dash, but didn’t realize the “new” one has some minor cracks, and now it’s worse.

The RAVE actually has some great info on how it works and how to diagnose. If memory serves, there are 3 readings taken to determine where the flaps should go for temp: the little motor under the cluster, the sensor on the dash, and I think one internal to the air box. Before doing the dash, the top sensor was broken in mine too, but I didn’t get any codes and was just aesthetic.

yep...ran the test on the A/C system after fishing it out from the inside. ended up breaking the plastic bits surrounding it...but mine is all cracked on both sides.
glued things back together. Good to go.
