Default Sunroof not closing completely

Hi all,

The two sunroofs on my D2 were totally sealed up with some sealant, probably because they where leaking
Since I want everything to work on my project car I decided to repair both sunroofs;

- What a horrible job to remove all the sealant...
- Motor back sunroof wasn't working, replaced that
- Runners back sunroof where broken, replaced that
- New seals for both sunroofs, front not done yet
- New drain tube spout on both sunroofs (Steve Parkers)

The back sunroof is not fully closing, so I tried to allign the mechanism.
Removed whole assembly, removed window, remove runners, aligned runners on each side into fully closed position (so that the black plastic 'clip' pulls the windows down), refitted runners to frame, refitted window, put everything back in the car.
Sunroof is opening and closing without weird noises, the only problem is it won't close fully to the position where the windows is pulled down onto the seal.
I'm able to close the last few mm with a screwdriver behind the mechanism, that goes without to much effort.
But when I open the window again, it is not fully closing unfortunately.
I've searched the forum and found this thread:
https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...g-right-97834/
I have the same problem as the first photo, but on both sides instead of just one side.

Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?
Hope you can point me in the right direction, thanks.

I've been searching this forum a little bit more and saw this thread:
https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...acement-95317/

Someone mentioned that the new window seal is inside out, well, i've also put the new seal inside out, perhaps this causes my problem.
I'll try to put the new seal in the correct way and will let you know if this is causing my problem.

HI when I did mine the front one would lift up and open, but not go back, it just jammed up, as I needed to remove the headliner as it was soaked , I removed the complete sunroof and had it on the work bench, I found the worm drive wire that do all the work were misaligned, OK so I lined them up and the glass them moved sliding easily back on forth, then next problem was the hold down hooks at the back did not lock down the glass, again in my case the handle, I removed the it and replace it with a second unit I had bought, once I removed the old unit I used a thin screwdriver to move the worm drive to pull the lock down hook over on to the glass this closed and secured the glass in the correct position I hen refitted the handle, working fine after a year

Thanks for your input, i’ve done most that you did, luckily in my case the new seal that i put inside out was causing the problem.

i removed the whole assembly, refitted the seal the way it should be, put everything back onto the car and tested multiple times. The back sunroof is now opening and closing like it should.

When the weather allows it, it’s time to seal the sunroof assembly to the roof and doing the same to the front sunroof.

i’ll post an update when i’m done or run into problems

HI yes I removed the complete unit as I was able to move it around on the roof, to do that I needed to remove the headliner , as it was falling apart because of all the rain getting in I renewed the liner at the same time
once I had the unit out I(cleaned off all the old seal with a wood chisel, then use a seal/adhesive to stick it back down been fine since I did it

Hi, an update;

I thought the front sunroof was open like it should, but there is a problem with the passenger side.
The little plastic clip that puls down the sunroof to close it completely is 9 out of 10 times not being pushed back.
This causes that the drivers side is pushed up but the passenger side is still ' locked'.
When I open the sunroof and push the little plastic clip back by hand (goes very easy), the window opens like it should.

I've got my old sunroof rails still here, but I cannot find the piece that pushes the little plastic clip backwards so the window can open.

Who's got some tips for me? I've searched the internet but can't find anything useful, probably because I don't know what to look for.

Hi its the worm drive that pushes the hook back, when I did mine it was like yours misaligned , and when I tried to open the sunroof you could see it twist to on side a jam up, for me the solution was to take it apart oil the worm gears , reassemble it making sure the hooks are in the same place and equal, then I fitted a replacement drive , mine is manual, so easy to do, my original was broken the gear teeth worn
just make sure the hooks are aligned before you refit the drive,

Hi,

With the worm drive you mean the teeth on the motor and the cable it drives? If so, then these seem to work like it should.
From the moment i want to open the sunroof both 'pins' are being pushed back at the same time and the same lenght, by 'pins' i mean these;

Also when i close the sunroof these 'pins' are both going fully to the closed position.

Since it's easy to push the plastic 'clip' backwards i think something else is going on;

Should there be something in the runners that pushes the plastic 'clip' back?

I did everything you did, and my sunroofs would not "compress" the new seals, hence a gap remained. Out of time, I covered both sunroofs with large pieces of 3M clear film and called it a day.
Do you think you could post some close-up pictures of your correctly installed seals?
Thanks!
