Default Sunroof poltergeist

I'm going to look at a 2003 Discovery today and the lady was VERY up front about everything wrong with it over the phone. By everything, I mean not much. She apparently sucks at parking because the LF mirror case is slightly cracked and the bumper end cap is cracked. She'd replaced all cooling lines last year after one broke and landed it at the dealer.

Anyway- my question. The only thing she told me that I was a little leary about is that the fuse was pulled for the sunroof since it decided to start operating on its own. The way she explained it, this only effects the front sunroof as she always made the distinction between front and rear in the conversation. Any ideas as to what might be the issue? She said that she never bothered to have it looked into since at that time she received a company car anyway.

Oh, and for those that think I might be getting lucky... yes, the headliner is starting to sag, too. Ha! It seems that EVERY D2 has a sagging headliner.

no big deal. these sunroofs and their switches and motors are notorious for failure. most seem to seal them up. i choose to maintain mine, my baby girls like them. I keep the drains clean and wipe down the rubber weatherstripping with soap and water occasionally. I have replaced a motor. an easy switch exchange with the rear will test the switches. also, if you address the headliner, that is a perfect time to make sure the sunroof drain tubes are clear. you will also find a couple of threads with painted headliners on here.

I took the glass off of mine took out the gasket ( the sunroof was leaking badly) cleaned the gasket like Dusty1 said. I then put some silicone lube on the gasket put it back in. One of the bolts holding the glass was loose when I took it off so I made sure it was tight. cleaned out the tracks and greased the rails a bit . No more leak. When I had my headliner replaced, we cleaned the drain tubes out, checked all motor connections. Now no leaks the rails slide smoothly and quiet. Motor is quiet but best of all no leaks .
Good luck these issues are very solvable.
Find a salvage yard for mirror and bumper piece. This is much less expensive .
Paul Grant on this forum has parts. I have Overland Rovers near me so I can pick up some parts there. They also ship.
