Synthetic is the way to go, I wouldn't wasted the money on steel cable. You will just end up replacing it later with synthetic

The OP is comparing apples to oranges. The 11000lb winch will obviously pull more but the one mentioned comes with steel cable. The 9500lb pulls less but comes with synthetic. So there's 2 questions here:
1) Do you want a 9500lb or 11000lb winch?
2) Do you want steel or synthetic line?

And yes, Warn's "VALUE" line of winches sucks ***. I had solenoid issues on my old 9000lb Tabor that left it worthless when I needed it most. Superwinch's value line seems to be better.
IMO you should save your pennies and but a Talon or older EP9. Or a ComeUp DV9 winch. Start with steel cable if your budget is tight and upgrade later.

This is the "apples to apples" part of the question.

Both cost around $500.00 (BUT, if my wife asks...they were fifty bucks on amazon...lol) and I "personally" feel as though 9500 is a tad weak...but I see several mounted to the front of rovers (in pictures on here). Maybe 9500 is just fine, for casual use...and that may be the way I use one. But, then my mind pictures me getting into a bit of more trouble (watching to many Camel Trophy/Lucky8 videos ya know)...and needing the extra strength to get the rover out of a serious situation.

Think I'm going to go with the suggestions of getting the 11000 and possibly change the cable sometime in the future, if the need arises. Need to go with a Superwinch, because the freewheeling lever housing is adjustable/rotatable (rotating it down from its original position, so it is pointing out, not up).

Thanks, guys...for the insight.

Brian.

Superwinch TS11500 (steel cable) will be here tomorrow. Went with the more-strength up front.

Found a good deal on Sportsman Guide...50 bucks cheaper than Amazon.

It looks very much like the Harbor Freight 12K Badlands winch:

I have the Harbor Freight winch for 3 yrs now. It got me out of a scrap last winter and it worked great (2nd year after installation). The key to making this winch last is to re-pack and grease the internals before installing for first use. There is a long thread about this winch here:

This looks intriguing: Foldable Winch Mounting Plate Cradle Mount For Hitch Receiver 4WD SUV | eBay

Moves the weight of the winch to the rear and eliminates the requirement for a new winch-bumper up front.

It snaps in to the Disco's 2" trailer hitch receiver in the back.

Maybe combine the above with a quick-connect/disconnect option for the 2 electric cables?

Question: Does this kit mount a trailer hitch receiver onto a front tow hook?
