I have a chance to pick up an almost new Surco basket style roof rack, 50" x 84", with the adapters to attach to the gutters. The guy is asking $250. Are these decent roof racks? I've looked into it, it seems they sell online for about $500-$600 w/ shipping, so it seems like a good deal, especially when it has the mounting hardware, but I have no idea what to look for in a roof rack, as this will be my first. The model # is S5084. Thanks

 

They will work for transporting crap. But it wont fit the contours of the truck like a SD or BajaRack. Personally the sureco is no my cup of tea.

 

I have the same roof rack. That's an alright price considering it has the gutter adapters. However I was especially lucky because the guy I got mine from also had 8 lights installed to it and he was only asking for $200.

 

All right. I'll offer the guy $200, and see what happens. Shipping alone on these is like $60-100, considering its over 4 feet across and 7 long, and after pricing out other racks of comparable size, I can't get anything for less than $600. He says he bought it last summer, and it was only installed for a week or so, so I'll check it out and see what's up. It's only about 10 minutes away, and considering its Boston, and nothing is cheap out here (1999-2002 DIIs still sell for 4-5k), it might be worth picking up, and if I don't like it, I'll just sell it and make my money back.

How expensive are the accessories for this rack, and are they easy to come by used? Whats the best type of flooring to use in it?
