Well, mine is at the shop getting a used replacement engine as we speak. Dropped cylinder sleeve. It's my 16 year old sons truck and we take it off roading and its a lot of fun. Yea Im gonna keep it because its something fun we do together. If your looking for a commuter this is not your truck. If you can wrench a little expect to spend money on it but is a fun ride off road.

When I bought mine back in May I absolutely LOVED Discoveries never actually had owned one. Thought I picked out a good one for a pretty good price and started absolutely HATING it. Everytime I would drive it, at least one thing would break. I'd fix that and two more would be broken. Park it and start saving and bam more would break. In the past 6 months I've only put 2000 miles on it because it's been in and out of my garage.
I can say though, that now that it's got 95% of the bugs and lacking maintenance from prior owners worked out along some stuff added on; I absolutely LOVE this thing.

I will say it this way. When i had my Fiat X 1/9 i didn't care i had to work on it every 800 miles or so. [tune up, wheels falling off, stuff like that]. I was having too much fun and it wasn't my main car. My landy is fun in a different way but i depend on it too much and can't stand wondering when and how am i going to pay for all these repairs. For me the love affair ended very quickly. I have been told if your willing to pay for love then go for it. If boring is your cup of tea, buy a Toyota

not sure about this statement
yep
YEP
Until you replace them
yep... replace it with something serviceable. call tom woods and for $400 you won't have to worry about it.
stolen from us yanks,
Anything plastic (cooling fans, anti-freeze reservoirs, vacuum lines, throttle body coolant pipes, etc) will become brittle and shatter.
Power steering pumps and hoses leak and they absolutely will not stop.
The second or third hand owners of the average 2000-2004 Discovery will ignore the chirping front driveshaft u-joints until they fail, at speed, beating a hole in the side of the transmission and smashing both cats - This requires 6 to 8 grand to fix and is more than they probably paid for the truck."

Well...
Well from the sounds of it, I should probably not put my wife in a Disco, at least not as her only vehicle when I'm travelling for work. I guess one expensive vehicular hobby is enough for now. I'll keep on Jeeping, and maybe add a Land Rover later for wheelin' in luxury. Thanks everyone.
