suspension lift springs issues
Okay guys, a while back I was going to swap out springs with a guy that owned a p38 because he wanted his to sit lower and I wanted to sit higher. He said it was a 4 inch lift and was told it would lift mine about 2 inches or so. I revently found it in the junk yard and immediately got those springs off. So I put the springs on and the front was lifted by almost 4 inches and the rear was lifted about 2 1/4 inches. obviously I am going to have to take these off, as the front sits higher than the back and I don't want to over extend my shocks. I was told that the stock shocks (which are still good) would not have to be replaced with only a 2 inch lift (I am going to replace them anyways) Here is a pic of the front ones compared to my back ones. The fronts and rears look the same and are the same height but the rears seem a little stiffer. The front springs sat about 2 inches higher than stock when standing next to each other, but were much thicker. Thicker than the stock rears. I am thinking of just ditching these springs and just starting over with a complete kit. I thought of cutting the stock rears where the coils are tightly wound and putting them on the front since they aren't as thick as the ones I put on. The stock rears have 3 coils closely spaced at the end. I know cutting springs is a no no but If I cut the rears there will still be the last winding that is close together and I would grind to top flat and level like they are already to fit the spring mounts so the springs will not bulge to one side when compressed. I am thinking that the stock rears aren't as high of a rate as my new fronts are, and would still support a heavy duty bumper. If not, I am going to just go ahead and cough up the money for all new springs shocks, brake lines and steering damper.
You should buy a lift for your vehicle, tyring to mix springs and rates from other vehicles. There is a lot of math that goes into selecting th eright springs for you rvehicle and use. Call Mike, he knows a ton and will help you make the right decision.
We spoke and I am going to just buy a new set. I am leaning towards the terrafirna 2 inch lift. i saw the pics of the beige disco with 265/75/16 tirez and the terrafirma 2" and it looks exactly like what i am wanting for mine.
Boy that is a change in direction and a waste of money, swapping out some good OME coils for a softer set of T.F. How did you come up with this idea especially when you are going to throw a bumper and winch on the front?

i have just bought a used disco 2 2005 model ..want to convert to coils .. please can anyone help .. i want to disarm the compressor to avoid battery drain... i have read that you can remove the fuse/relay and the connecting wires to the compressor ... but some one also said about disconecting the ground wire of the compressor... please advice where is this ground wire and what colour .... many thanks aslam

Where are you located, are you refering to an LR# if so this question should be posted in that section. Also if you are referring to an LR3, why would you want to go to coils and not do one of the standard lift with available lifting arms?
