Swap engines between my 2 DII's

![Question](https://landroverforums.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Scenario:
2000 DII has 118K miles with replaced 2004 4.6L block with 45K miles
2001 DII has 67K miles with original 4.0L block
If I want the bigger engine to go into the 2001, what does it take? I have never replaced engines... How much time would it take for a mechanic? Cost?
Reason for the swap is that the 2001 has all the off road gear and will be used only when carrying heavy loads on big trips. I think the 4.6 would be more conducive for those conditions.
Opinions and knowledge please....

I forgot to mention the snorkel, light guards f/r, winch and heated seats for my better half...
Even if i would move all that, the problem with swapping the bumpers is that one is white, the other gold. Now I need a paint job too... If swapping the engines is not feasible I would leave it as is. But I would really like the extra HP combined with the lower miles. We potentially have some big travel plans for that one carrying lots of gear and driving long distances...
Hmmm, I just can't believe it would cost $3K... You can buy a new engine for less!

The 4.0 is more than capable of hauling the kind of load you're talking about. Do you know what gears are in the axles of the 2001? I would bet that with all the other work done to the truck it has been regeared also.
The 4.6 only makes about 30 horsepower more than the 4.0. That little difference inn power is barely going to noticeable and definitely not worth the cost of swapping the engines. I think you made the right decision leaving the engines where they are.
