Default Swapped front driveshaft, now getting grinding noises

Just to be clear, I took the truck for a test drive down the road prior to swapping out the drive shaft and had no issues with the stock front drive shaft installed. Then I swapped over the Tom Woods drive shaft and Im getting a grinding like noise as soon as I press on the accelerator. Turn the truck off then back on and shifted through the gears and still the grinding noise. What gives?

When I ordered this drive shaft from Lucky 8 they asked about my suspension lift. Told them I have the TerraFirma 2" lift and they said its actually a 3" lift and that I woukd need a specific drive shaft to compensate. So would putting this driveshaft into a stock height Disco cause the issue Im now having?

Most likely if memory serves the tom woods shaft is longer to compensate for the lift.

Could be due to the added weight it's putting extra stress on weak output bearings on the TC

Yeah a driveshaft meant for a lifted D2 probably isn’t a good idea. The stock height shaft maybe has an inch to an inch & a half of slack on it. When you lift it the slip yoke part extends, but on a longer driveshaft in a smaller space it can only compress so much before it pushes on the bearings like ArmyRover is talking about.

I saw AB sells a spacer to solve stock front shafts on lifted D2’s for like 25-29.00. It looks like it would be enough to put my stock shaft at just about it’s OEM position vs being slightly extended.

Did some tinkering and now everything is in working order with the Tom Woods drive shaft installed.

Is this the same Disco, or did you buy another one?

This post is associated with the white D2. Bone stock and Im in the process of getting all the good parts and accessories swapped over. I was concerned about the aftermarket Tom Woods shaft possibly not being compatible with a non lifted D2 but apparently all is well.

Better nylocs...
