Default Swapping dash lights with LED bulbs? Brighter?

As I get closer to age 60 my low light vision seems to decrease and I notice I have trouble clearly seeing the gauges on the dash and tend to at least turn on the parking lights in order to light up the dash but in the daytime that doesn't help that much. The dash cluster on the Discovery is set back with all the black around it I wish there was a way to brighten it up.

Does anyone know if LED bulbs would help? At one of the LR forums I read about someone swapping their out and liking the difference.

I think you will find them brighter. I replaced the overhead lights with LEDs and big difference. I can see to check the map or Depends.

Listen, I wear readers in low light and sunglasses with readers in the lower half for sunny driving. Without them I couldn't see much of what the gauges say! Depends might not be far off!

I bought these: 10x 42mm 8 LED Pure White Car Auto Interior Dome Festoon Light Lamp Bulb DC 12V | eBay

When I first installed them, they seemed brighter, but now, after a couple months, they are getting dimmer and start to flicker after being on for a while. I'm guessing that is due to them only being $6 for 8 bulbs and direct from China.

I went with these because some members said theirs were too bright. I felt it was a decent compromise, but now, I'm considering going back to stock bulbs.

PS: I also put them in my Wife's car and they have burned out already.

Hi

I have replaced the dash lamps, A/C ECU/controller and interior festoon lamps with LED's and it really makes a difference. They are all available from Hong Kong on Ebay for a few cents each and free postage. It is a worthwhile exercise.

you could just replace all the bulbs with new stock replacement bulbs. Will be easier and it should make the guages bright like they use to be. That's actually my next project.
