Sway bars with HD springs: disconnect or not?
About to install a 2" OME lift with HD springs. Also planning to install extended steel brake lines.
What's the deal with the sway bars? Is there a noticeable difference in flex with them disconnected? Is one axle more noticeable than the other (front vs. rear)?
Do YOU disconnect them when running trails?
With HD springs (and absolutely zero armor) can I disconnect them full time?
Or do I need something like this?

(any less expensive options out there? $175 for brackets, cotter pins, and steel bars seems steep....)

Refer to Mike chewing me out over this when I did the OME HD lift and or watch a few videos on how the sway bars work on the DII on You Tube. They auto disconnect on the DII. I wanted to do the quick disconnects like my Jeep but was quickly shot down by the usual suspects around here;_)
First, what spring, by part number, are you installing?
How often will you be wheeling and how sever a trail?
Some people like to disconnect them using quick disconnects, for off road only.
There are a few people that just take them off, but you may not like the uncontrolled ride when going thru curves at highway speeds.

i got a D1 so its a bit different, but i pulled my rear sway bar ab a year ago and didnt notice much on road difference... the back flexes out a lot on the trails though... i didnt pull the front bc i do a lot of highway driving
Lets put it this way, if you had to swerve to keep from hitting something, with the sway bars removed, you would scare the crap out of your self.
you would also probably be convicted of manslaughter if somebody died in an accident caused by you removing a safety device from the vehicle.
i'll be using OME 779 in front and 762 in rear.
anyone else make sway bar disconnect kits?
i'm thinking remove rear entirely and put quick disconnects on the front.

Though genreally I drive far enough ahead that I rarely have to make emergency maneuvers.
At least on D1's they are called anti-roll bars, to prevent body roll. Primarily because people freak out with a lot of body lean.
I'm sure people behind me sometimes wonder, but the Disco has a low CoG. The I-20 east bound merge with I-85 north in Atlanta is posted 35mph, but my Disco handles it at 55 with no problem at all.
