Default Switched over to G05 (Ford) Coolant

I went to green coolant a couple years ago but was getting tired of changing it every year (probably overkill but can't hurt). Since I have my engine buttoned up I decided to go with another "long life" coolant. I refuse to use dexcool as I just don't believe the Disco's seals have been optimized for it plus it has poor fast acting additives (take 1000's of miles to build up the protection layers). So that left Toyota or Ford coolant (I wanted to use a readily available Zerex coolant). Both are a hybrid OAT coolant but do not use sebecate like dexcool does. Both HOATs use a fast acting additive along with the slower longer life organic acid additives. Toyota pink (Zerex Asian) uses phosphates while Motorcraft (Zerex G05) uses silicates. IMO silicates offer better protection so I decided to go with the G05.

I will probably try to run this 3 years or 50,000 miles, checking the pH and specific gravity every fall and spring. FWI I did 5 flushes to get rid of all the old green. The first was with prestone radiator flush, next 2 were with hose water. The last 2 were with distilled water then I drained the excess water and added 1.5 gallons of concentrate (total engine volume is 13 quarts). That leaves a 1/2 gallon of concentrate in the jug, add distilled water and throw it in the back for emergencies. Bring on winter.

I had dye in my old coolant so it took forever to run clear. I see no upside to using dex. In modern cars that have been engineered to use dex sure, but not in this engine.

Think it was around $13/gallon.
