Rovers might be notorious for leaks and electrical glitches, but I've very rarely heard of people being left stranded on the side of the road. Fairely new to Rovers myself, but I pretty sure that rovers bring you to destination and back. As long as you know your vehicle and leave ready ( bring oil if it leaks oil to top it off at pit stops, same for coolant).

Being one of the worst rated in reliability doesn't mean owners get stuck. It's about the little things that make you go back to the dealer for warranty work. Power locks, power windows, heated seats, sunroofs, SLS, 3 amigos, oil and coolant leaksand stuff like that.

But I'm open to comments if you feel I'm wrong.

I posted my remarks on the forum with the subject of "Reliable Vehicles" where I mentioned the "New" vehicles I have owned and the problems associtated with each. You may notice I mentioned an '87 Nissan pickup and the fact that I never had any problem with it. If I tell you more about the Nissan pickup then perhaps you will notice why I never had any problems. The word is simplicity. With no bells and whistles on the truck there was very litle that good go wrong. The thingsthe Nissan pickup didnot have that the modern day Disco does: A/C, Radio, power seats, power windows, power locks, autotransmission, crusie control, ABS/HDC/TC, power mirrors, keyless entry, alarm system, electroinc compass, dual climate control. There may be something I have left out but you get the point. The more complex any item is, the more prone to problems it is.

I talked to the service technicians at the local BMW place in 2003. They were feeling the same way about the new BMWs. Way too much "junk" on them to give trouble.

I am sending this message on a new laptop. It has way more "stuff" on it than I need. I can surf the net at 3 Mbps, wirelessly, while I watch a movie play on the built-in DVD burnerw/split screen. What will be the first thing to quit on the thing?

I am 59 years old, I worked at a TV shop in 1966 when most of the TV's were B/W. They did not even pick up UHF channels for the most part. And no remote controls. As the circuitry kept getting more complex there were more customer complaints, after all, you don't complain about "no color" if yourTV was not designed to show color.

Just something for us all to think about when an idiot light comes on or our sunroof wont close with a storm a-brewing!

I do enjoy reading about all the problems people are having and the way in which they go about rectifying those problems. As of right now, I will let my little three amigos look at me, after all, I'm no indiot!

I guess it's my turn to tell you about my 1968 Jeep CJ-5 that has never had a problem. Of cours it has nothing, no HVAC, no radio, no doors, no top.

Based on that and knowing that my '03 Disco will have problems some time in the next 40 yearsI'm going to go ahead and let the world know that my Disco is a piece of crap - and it sucks off road.

But sometimes sucking in luxury with lots of bells and whistles is just where you want to be in life.
