Default T-day cancelled - Waiting for tow truck

Driving down the highway on the way to G-ma's enjoying the ride.
Then I hear a puuuushhh sound, the engine dies and I coast to the side of the road. Look under the hood, all seems fine. Check oil - full, coolant fine. Notice a couple small oil drops on ground near left front of engine. Looked, maybe some oil on the left front of motor near power steering tank.
After inspection, attempted a start; engine cranks fine and a couple lone fires however will not start.
Grammy will be disappointed, I'm disappointed also. Tow truck inbound.
Thoughts?

That sucks man, there is really alot of possibilities. If you heard a puuuushhh sound while you were driving then it must have had some force behind it so maybe a deeper look will point to something obvious. Good luck.

Sorry to hear, man. Sounds like a crankshaft sensor (besides the puuush sound).

Sorry to hear man, I got a flat on the beach courtesy of Sandy who decided to partially bury a piece of rebar. I love the Holidays.

Could the sounds have been the drivetrain after the engine quit running? My money is in CKP...

T-day saved by the Wife's Mini; only 3 hours late.
Heading out to the shop tomorrow armed with more info for a T-shooting session.
Update pending.
