Default tapping sound left side of engine on accelaration

Here we go guys. This sounds like cheap gas. Only on accelaration do I hear what sounds like pinging if I back off of the pedal it goes away. it's not a lifter sound or a bearing or a rod. truck runs great. It just bugs me. My baby is a 2000 discoII with 137000 miles on her.
it just started a couple of months ago. when I hear it I want to back off on the pedal but at times I just cant do that with some guy wanting to climb in my back end. She does go with no effort. any ideas.
Thanks
Gtagg

Do you use premium gas?

I agree, we need to start with the brand and grade of gas you are using.
Premium fuel is REQUIRED and cheap gas, i.e. off brand, cheap brand, non good name brand, is a no-no.
Shell, BP, Chevron, Texaco, Mobil, Phillips, Sunoco are all good brands.
Murphy, Costco, Joes Crab Shack & Gas N Go are not good brands of gas.

yes, and I add a can of seafoam to the gas every oil change. I'm wondering if it could be something with the emission controls. because the sound reminds me of a pcv valve rattling around. any ideas?

Well you dont need to add any injector cleaner to the gas as long as you are using good gas, good gas has it in it already.
It could be a bad knock sensor, there is one for each side.
If the PCV on your truck were clogged you would be blowing oil everywhere.
It is a good idea to clean the oil separator once a year, it is on the passenger side valve cover, that is the PCV for this engine.
Remove the hose, pull out the oil separator and clean it with carb cleaner, let it dry and put it back.

makes sense to me I'm going to check out the knock sensor. And I'll be sure to stay away from bp oils. HA! Thanks Spike.
