Default Tensioner Pulley

Any write ups out there on replacing the tensioner pulley?

Pretty easy fix. Remove belt take bolt out of the center of bearing replace pulley and reinstall in reverse order. Just make sure you get the belt back on properly.

It's pretty much just put wrench on pulley bolt, pry tensioner up, remove belt from alternator pulley to allow slack in belt, remove tensioner pulley from tensioner, replace pulley, reinstall belt in reverse order.

Why just the pulley, instead of the whole tensioner? At that mileage, I would replace the whole thing (same instructions as above except unbolt tensioner from engine instead of removing pulley from tensioner).

Done. Easy. Thought about replacing the whole tensioner, but it seemed in fine shape, Very tense. Plus, the pulley needed replacing TODAY. Suprised it didn't blow apart already.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ROVER PEOPLE!

Normally if that pulley is failing the other 2 idler pulleys are close behind.

Any thoughts on a preferable brand of tensioner pulley and idler pulleys?
I really like Gates, but from their website they only make the Serp belt.
So I guess we are left with factory LR, Dayco, All Makes4X4.

The one I bought is a Gates. About twenty bucks at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Thanks Discobob,
I found the full kit here at Atlanta British.

I did also found the pulley at Orielly that you mensioned for $19.99. It only listed 2000-2002. So I dont know about 03/04 years(mine is a 2003). It would'nt be the first time my year was not listed in their database, but the part would fit just fine. I also found out the the two idler pulleys...one is 70mm and one is 80mm. Probably can tell by looking for the 10mm diameter difference.

When I did mine, I replaced just the bearing in the pully. My '04, if i remember right, was like $45 a pulley. New bearing for $8.

Correction: bearings was for the idler pulleys- tensioner I got complete at autozone.
