had more time to look at the tensioner, actually removed it. this is what I discovered...... Now what

Had the same happen to me. The tensioner broke the alternator bracket. Best route is to find one at a junk yard and pull off a used bracket. They are otherwise expensive online.

I got my new tensioner pulley at Oreilly's. Get the one that cross lists with the Discovery I. It fits and is much cheaper. Also check if there's a distinction between ACE or not. Replace your belt as well.

Thanks man, Indy shop here thinks he has the alternator bracket, if not used on ebay for 50 bucks. Autozone was the only parts store in my area with the tensioner in stock (cross references to the D1) 42.99.

I don't know how Land Rover makes parts that appear to be solid, but just aren't!
