Default Terra Firma Discrete Winch Mount on 2003 Disco

We recently completed the installation of CDL on wifey's 2003 Disco. I used it for the occasional light off-roading during the weekend. However, the Disco is her primary vehicle for ferrying the kids around and she does not want it looking too off-roady. Hence, the discrete winch idea.

I am looking at using the Terra Firma discrete winch mount:
TF078 - Discreet Winch Mounts

I plan to keep the factory bumper grille (see pic). My research tells me the need to cut a hole in the center part of the bumper to accommodate the winch behind the bumper.

Has anyone attempted this installation? What type of winch works well for this set-up? Any other tips or guidance will be much appreciated!

You really need to consider replacing the factory bumper if you are going for a winch, otherwise you will crack/damage the bumper when off wheeling. Also, with your stock suspension, your front end will sit too low killing your approach angle, you need to replace your warn out factory suspension to prevent dragging or front end damage.
How much wheeling do you actually do and on how hard of a trail?
If you really want to improve your trucks performance, consider spending that money on a True Trac rear locker which will keep you from getting stuck.

Mike,

I appreciate your comments. The discrete winch is intended for light off-roading as this is the wife's Disco (she does not want a bulky looking ARB type bumper and winch set-up). I recognize the factory plastic bumper is susceptible to breaking. However, we are looking at light off-roading and a winch recovery backup option just in case we were to get stuck for her peace of mind.

Just curious if there are any forum members who have done this installation and care to send their installation tips?

It's hard to use a winch that you cannot see the drum.
