Question Thermostat????????

Good morning everybody! Well this morning I was sitting at the stop light in a normal amount of traffic, and I started to notice that my heater started to blow cold air and the water temp gauge began to raise. The light turned green and I continued to drive to the office and the heat kicked in once again and temp gauge went back to normal! Once I got to the office I put the disco in park and again heat stops and blows cold air, water gauge begins to raise. Could this be a bad thermostat??? Thanks for the help guys

First off, is your coolant low? Second how old are the serpentine belt and tensioner? Have you bled the cooling system? Start off with the easy before jumping into new parts because you will have to do these anyway most likely.

Sounds more like a water pump or belt, belt tensioner problem. Seems like its not flowing enough coolant at an idle

This sounds like typical low coolant.
When low on coolant and the engine rpm drop there is not enough coolant for the water pump to pump through the heater.
Top off your coolant.

Why have you not checked the coolant this morning before driving it, you can over heat and trash one of these engines when you are low on coolant, caused by a leak???
I would stop driving it and top off the coolant and bleed the system, only when the engine is stone cold.
