Yes, a lot of us use the in-line thermostat kit and like it. Is your kit the "Extinct" version (that's the one we use).
But, I agree that your heater core sounds suspect. Seeing your heater isn't working anyway, the easiest way to troubleshoot it would be to bypass the heater, bleed the system, and see if your problems go away.

Inline thermostat kits are for the V8 not TD5 that You seem to have.
There might have been some tests for a TD5 one by Extinct.

Oh yes, I should have noticed that it's a diesel.

I wouldn't be worried about a TD5 overheating as long as the system is okay.
If the radiator seems bad, replace it with a Nissens one, check the hoses etc. and if they seem like theres anything worn/bad, replace them.

Make a pressure test for the cooling system to find leaks, addreess if needed and worry if You actually have an issue.

But this is just my 2 (euro)cents and I live in Finland where we really have max of around +30C in the summer and not for a too long period, and also ~-30C in the winter.

I have shipped a few TD5 kits but don't have any customer install photos yet. I have instructions. Email me at info@inlinethermostats.com and I will send you the instructions. The inline does make it easy to troubleshoot things because you can just remove the thermostat element from the housing assuring full flow (might run a little too cool why you are testing if it is not the summer time).

So yeah I just bought new hoses. I found it was a leak in my radiator hose. They tried to charge me for head gasket. Luckily I bought a kit to a compression myself and found the leak so now I’m doing a full upgrade of my radiator hoses. I bought the silicone kit I live in northern New South Wales. It can get quite hot here like up to 39 on some days but usually through summer third 35 that’s for four months so I think overheating is not a problem perhaps but I’d still like to keep this engine cooler because it’s done 270,000 k’s and none of the hoses have been changed so I’m now going to become a DIY Mechanic and make it happen I just bought a new thermostat and I also bought a new radiator expansion tank. I’m thinking to go to aluminium one. I do do a lot of towing so I hear there is some kind of upgrades near the radiator which I’m looking into. If there’s any other ideas guys that you think that can be good on an upgrade for these you know it’s a TD5 diesel 2003 so automatic so what has people’s experience being that they’ve done modifications to this car and probably the best things to do. I’m about to do a whole check on the engine. check the connectors redo the connectors. I bought the workshop manual so I’m gonna completely figure it out myself and try to figure out what things I should take out and replace and pretty much doing a on my TD5 in this year the next after the expansion tanks and the radiator hoses which I found out was an EGR cooler hose that I will probably go to the AC

and saying that I have now collected the rings to put around the hoses which are called clamps but I am thinking to upgrade them to T clamps. Apparently the T clamps are better for the radiator hoses especially because it gets quite hot. I really don’t know what else to do right now but I feel like there’s so modern and replace on this car cause none of it’s really been changed since it’s been handed over to me five years ago so I think it’s time to start really working on the engine itself and get them all. Schmick

also extinct are you saying that you have done a TD5 model upgrade of the thermostat and not just the V8 ones?

Yes, we have done TD5's before and I just received the first batch of photos from the customer. Works just as good as the Petrol ones. We are now working on getting it on the website and writing up the installation instructions. In the meantime if you are in a hurry order the standard kit and message me directly you want the TD5 and I will send it.

You may also want to take a look at our electric fan kit. I have not validated it on the TD5 but it could be done so pretty easily. We provide the brackets and wiring harness to integrate it, the fans are stock oem fans. You could easily test by ordering the fans off amazon to start and then see how if fits on the TD5 radiator, if it fits good just go ahead and order the kit for the wiring and brackets. Start here, be sure to click on the links, the videos, and the blog post: https://extinctmotorsports.com/dual-...tallation-kit/
