Default And they said it couldn't be done!

I have a 2000 Disco II that I got stuck in a water crossing some months ago. The water was actually all the way up to the windows in the passenger compartment. All Lights and bells were going off. I took it to the dealer and asked around on the forums, everyone said I had to replace all the ECUs that got wet. I then talked to my friend who owns a shop here in Phoenix and he said that was incorrect. We took out all that ECUs that we could locate and disassembled them, cleaned them with a tooth brush and contact cleaner (the circuit boards), then put it all back together. The car runs perfect. I just want to share this with you people.

Thanks

That's awesome that you were able to save the vehicle and ECUs. Usually what happens when electronics get wet is it causes internal arcing that destroys the component. Getting the circuit thoroughly dried out and the contacts cleaned is the trick to saving electronics.

The ECU is not the only problem, just a minor one.
Most auto insurance companies will total a vehicle after take that much water, all your electrical connection are prone to fouling out over time.
What were you thinking, if you were my kid, you would be back walking and you may anyway as the corrision sets in.

Nothing like someone gloting over their immaturity.

and disco mike I value the help that you give everyone on the forum I think we Land Rover folks need someone as knowledgeable as yourself. I just wanted to post this so maybe someone like me that floods out there disco has options. I had no idea you could clean a circuit board, but now I do and so does anyone else who reads the post. Do be negative!

Owning a house and a couple of Rovers does not mean you are mature, your actions say otherwise.
