sometimes when i go to start my truck in the mornings when i turn the key the starter will just free spin, like i know it is gettin power but you know the little part that juts out to engage the flywheel, well it sounds like that bit isnt doing its job, after multiple tries of turn the key, wait for it to stop spinning, turn the key again it will finally engage and off i go... has anyone else had this issue and does it mean a new starter or somthing else, also when my truck is running the lights pulsate, all my lights interior, dash, headlights... am i right to asume that this means possibly a new alternator should be ordered also? help me out fellas... its a 97 disco with 155000 miles and there is really no telling if and when either of these items were replaced...

Check and clean ALL earth straps from batt to body,eng to body etc.Also cleanthe starter connections
Also adding an extra earth strap from the engine to the body is a good tip for D1's

just had the alternator load tested and the battery.. both checked out fine.. belt is slightly worn but still in pretty good shape... saturday is a big day for the rover (lift kit, new brakes, and some new fluids) so while im at it i guess i will check out all the grounds and stuff.. i got a friend who can get me a starter for like 120... how hard is it to change?
