Default Thinking about buying an 03 disco.

Hi all. I'm thinking about upgrade my 98 disco to an 03 saw one for a good price here is the add. 2003 Discovery SE 114 miles. Clean Black Shiny Exterior with Clean Black Interior. Cold A/C. New Head Gasket Kit intalled including new plugs, wires. New Battery, New Oxygen Sensor. No oil leaks. No Over Heating. Runs Very Good.
New oil change. Just Flushed Antifreezer. Ready for winter.
CAR RUNS GOOD AS IS. ENGINE HAS TICKING NOISE. Just wonder if it worth buying, engine has ticking noise scared me a little. Heard they have a lot of problem with oil pump and may need an engine. Asking price is 3950. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. Any advice on things I should be looking for when buying this particular year and for the noise, and is it worth the money and the risk with the noise. Any advice are appreciated.

I have an 03... my lifters were worn slap out and making a knocking noise when the engine was cold.

Anyways...
Ticking noise could be:
Exhuast leak (manifold or collector)
Oil pump (never heard one but they say a bad one makes a ticking noise, do a pressure check first)
or the tick is actually a knock or blown head gasket even if theyre new.

I bought an 03 with a tick. 10k miles later still an intermittent tick. Haven't had much time to work on it, but I'm pretty sure I have narrowed it down to an exhaust leak. Its my first Land Rover and I am very happy with it.

3950 seems like a pretty fair price. Put in another 1.5k and you should have a pretty nice truck. I have a 2003 with slight tick when starting up. Had it for 20k and no issues. If you're really serious I'd ask to take it to a mechanic have the oil pressure check and have them give it a once over. m2c

$109 for the kit of parts and gaskets from Atlantic British. While in there, swap the water pump as well. Oil Pump Gear Kit W/Gaskets - Land Rover kits from Atlantic British
