Default Thinking of buying a 96-99 Discovery II ....

hi guys,
i am going to get a used land rover discovery II..., something between a 1996 and 1999.
Anything in particular I should be looking at or for ?

Just using it for an all around car and occassional off road and snow.

Default RE: Thinking of buying a 96-99 Discovery II ....

First the Disco II was made from '99 and later, so before that would be the original Discovery. I have a '95 and an '01, and there are differences between the 2 starting with the ride being softer in the 95. From what I have seen on the forum, the late '95 to '97's seem to be the most reliable. However with that said, if you can find one that happens to be a one owner and they have all of the service records that would be most ideal. However the older you get the harder it is to find them. You probably won't find one that has less than 100k miles, which is not much of a problem and if some of the required services have not been done, those will need to be done, plugs/wires/ radiator flush, trans filter, etc. Brakes are necessary, and from things I have learned you will go through pads every 20 to 30K miles, and they are not difficult to change either, if you have a little basic mechanical knowledge. They are great vehicles and are a little more expensive to get repaired, of course any vehicle that is more than 8 years old will have some repair issues, be prepared.
