Default Thinking of selling the DII...

I have a 2004 DII that I'm contemplating selling and moving up to a 2008 LR3 with less miles (< 70,000) that I can get for a deal from a friend at work (was his wifes car). It will be an extra car for beach trips, playing in the sand dunes, and hauling my boats and extra gear. I love my DII, but the LR3 is nice and the seven passenger seating would be very helpful on occasion. My question is more on opinions on the LR3 (maybe wrong forum), and what my DII might be worth? I dont have any current pictures but below is a description. Thanks for any input.

- 2004 Land Rover Discovery II SE
- Located in Houston, TX
- 96k miles
- Black exterior/ tan interior
- Front heated seats
- Rear air (5 passenger)
- Tow package and wiring
- Rear access ladder
- Front full brush guard and rear tail light grills
- Ive done the ABS modulator fix (no amigos since fix)
- New Battery
- Redone headliner (foam and material was coming apart)
- New tires at 88k miles
- Both Differentials/transmission/transfer case serviced @ 90k miles
- New stainless steel brake lines and brake fluid flush
- New front drive shaft from British Parts Utah @ 95K miles
- Recent coolant flush and thermostat change
- Changed out front drivers side hub
- I have an OBDII tool I'll throw in as well
- Vehicle is pretty clean, but shows its wear a bit as its kind of been a utility vehicle

No head gasket/ top end work yet as there hasn't been the need so far (knock on wood).

Sounds like a good stock truck with a few bits added. Can't comment on price though as a different market.

LR3 is good but better in diesel and again LR4, or D4 to me, is even better paticularly 3.0 TDi but I understand your state laws are very different re diesels. The great thing about diesels (I'm a diesel 'oil head') is all your worries and woes about gas engines suddenly evaporate.

Don't forget the $50 investment in decals

My perspective of value, and it is just a opinion as a buyer that would buy a Rover to appreciate, is since no head work has been done, then it should be immediately planned as a buyer. It could go at any moment.

With that said, a good truck with the typical problems and bad head gasket is worth about $1200 to $2000, depending on the area and buyer. Maybe even lower.

Then you could start adding about 1/3 to 1/2 your investment on some of the cool stuff like bush guards, grills, front drive shaft, etc. Maybe the headliner redone might fit into this category.

Things like service updated, new tires, recent brake jobs, and nice but "stock" upgrades will get you the advantage of being pick of the litter, but for pretty much the same price.

With this logic, I would put it around $2000 to $3500.

With that said, I have seen people who don't know Rovers (and know that the heads need attention) pay insane amounts because they wanted a kool Rover.

Thanks for the opinions and again just toying with the idea, as I do love this truck. $4K-5K would probably be in my ballpark window for listing it as some of you mentioned. So far I've put a lot of working into this truck so far. I do know it is likely to need head work very soon, just reluctant to do it if I'm going to sell it. Though as I said I'm on the fence of buying a used 2008 LR3 with low miles or fixing my truck and keeping it until its a "classic". For the expense of the new car, I could take the cash and put a new engine in my D2 as well, which is another thought I've had. I mean I only put maybe 1-2K miles a year on it as is. Decisions when you love your Land Rover lol.

between road tax and insurance you're probably losing money that could go into the LR3
