Thoughts on an '04 HSE7
Looking at buying a 2004 Discovery HSE7 with 63k miles. It is in excellent condition, the absolute nicest one I've ever seen. He's asking $14k but said he'd do $12,300. According to kelly blue book it's worth around $13k.
This will be my daily driver and I won't be using for towing or off-road.
Is this a good model as far as reliability?
Is the price good, fair, high?
Any other thoughts on this model?
thank you

shop around on the price. Known issues include front drive shaft has to be replaced, the oem design does not have grease fittings on one end, it dries out, snaps, pokes hole in tranny. With that kind of folding money involved, have your indy Rover specialist do a pre-puchase inspection. There have been people post on here abiut D2 purchases in all kinds of price ranges. Best ever was $2000, for a garage kept D2 with 117 miles, eccentric owner.
There can be all sorts of issues with a Rover, overheating, oil leaks, ABS brakes, head gaskets, slipping engine sleeve, warning lights painted over, cut out, codes reader test is a good idea, chemical test for exhaust gas in coolant is good, etc.
Rovers can look great on the outside and be a basket case under the hood. Likewise they can have dents and mud and cracked glass and be a great vehicle.

I'm new here, so my opinion isn't the best, but...I just got my 1 owner 2004 for $3200, in pretty great shape, so I can't imagine paying over $10,000.
The issue I see is that, no matter how well maintained, and how low the mileage is, you will have the same issues as most other people have and will be pouring some money into it. No way around it. So it's really like a crap shoot, maybe you'll get lucky.
You just have to understand that up front, and then you'll not be let down when something goes wrong.
But that seems like a really high price.

KBB under-emphasizes mileage and over-emphasizes options. A rig with twice the mileage wouldn't differ much in price, but if it had a navigation system, "ching-ching"!
I shopped around (the US) for 4 months. Finally bought a 1 owner, clean carfax, 60K mi, 04 SE7 for $12K. If you must have the 3rd row (like I did), it's really going to limit your options and drive the price up. The one you found looks about right. If you can do without the 3rd row, I'd say you could do better.
Looking back, I'd say I did everything right. However, since June, I've still had to replace some big ticket items. Just know that even if you buy smart, it's still not a Camary.

That's just about the best advice there is when looking at these. Go in with your eyes open and you will enjoy the ride.
I can find 03-04 range rover hse's for that price. If you aren't going offroad or even towing, I would actually suggest anything but a rover. Hope it works out well though. These things are finnicky. The forum is here to help.
