why is 50k "in the death range"?? is it me just being use japaneese cars lasting well into 200k? ive had an 01 disco 2 for about 6 months now. it has 78k, whats the "death range" on this, the same as your 03?

Some 2004 also affected by misalignment issue. Any year can have oil pump crack and fail.

My take on it is you still see oil pumps blowing as late as 80k, but it much more rare and I believe that is not related to an alignment issue do to the fact it happens on all years across the board.

do you have any pictues of 4.0's with broken oil pump gears? because all the ones i have seen are from 4.6's.

Maybe PTshram will chime in on all the ones he has seen and any other rover techs. I understand you being protective since you drive a 4.0 but, it can happen on any year though you do hear about the 03/04 more. Its the same block and oil pump so the year shouldnt make much difference.

but the 4.6 have the **** poor front cover, not the 4.0. An a believe the last one PT show was because the thrust bearing had failed.
