Default RE: Three Amigos...

Thanks. I think I'll have a skilled mechanic do the head gasket project as I am certainly an amateur. I'll visit your site to check out the price of the Head Gasket Kit.

I'm going to go ahead and order the Shuttle Valve Kit and attempt that myself. I was told that I could simply disconnect the battery to reset the codes. I suppose this isn't accurate or you would have told me. Correct?

How urgent is it for me to change the Head Gasket if it's an external leak?

Thanks,

mike

I had a leak. I put a can of radiator stop leak in and that cured the problem. I also keep the fluid level 1" below the full mark on the plastic fill/overflow tank

Level stays there or do you need to add coolant to keep there? If need to add coolant how much how often? How often do you check level?

Mike,

A coolant leak to the outside world is scary because you have to really keep an eye in the coolant or there will be room for steam and it will overheat. But you can manage. An exhaust leak through he head gasket can groove the heads.

You can replace the head gaskets yourself. Promise. I have and it's a little time consuming but it can be done with just normal person tools. Lots of forum members can talk you through it.

The shuttle valve fix is a breeze, and I've done it (as most Disco owners have or will do). But to my knowledge the abs system has to be reset and doesn't reset itself. I got a cheap icarsoft 9300 on amazon to do that.
