Default The three amigos lights

My lights occasionally pop on and after restarting the vehicle will turn off. Is there a better way to diagnos? I don't have the money for the little scanner tool

Default Don't think there's any other option...

If it's a shuttle valve failure, I suppose you could disassemble the modulator and check the resistance of the switches. You'd also see if brake fluid was leaking past the valves. But, this is a lot of work to go through, and if you went this far, why not actually do the mod? Some might say not to throw parts at a problem without a proper diagnosis, but chances are good this is (or will be) an issue, and it's great piece of mind to have it done with.

As for other potential causes, I suppose there are similar things that can be tried (checking continuity, etc.). But, time consuming and a bit of a crap shoot...

I lend my code reader with a deposit, if that helps. Good luck.

Ill take you up on that deposit, and I did read through the threads about all the mods. I will probably go that route but I'm worried that after all that work I didn't fix what was originally wrong with it.

Default Well, again...

The mod worked for me... I bought the code reader, and learned that the shuttle valve fault was the issue. Bought the repair kit and it sat around for two months while I geared up the time and courage to install. Most painful part of the mod was bleeding brakes afterwards, as I pulled the entire modulator (hats off to those who had the patience or small hands to do otherwise). I'm an engineer but of the wrong discipline for car maintenance, and lacking the proper tool kit. Suffice it to say, if I can follow the instructions in the sticky post, anyone can.

Amigo free, and really happy not to experience even the intermittent warning light for quite some time (oh boy, what's next?)!

Well I ordered the kit from falcon works and I'm going to give that a shot and bleed my brakes with some new fluid... it looks kinda coffee colored so I'm assuming the previous owner put on new rotors but didn't bother with the fluid. Figures.

I'm an electrical engineer and I specialize in electronics for scientific research; not trail ready electronics so we'll all see how I fair, if it doesn't work I'll probably end up renting that reading tool from you.

I also sent some emails to WABCO, I don't know if anyone else has bothered but I want an explanation for this treachery!

Please flush the brake system fully, takes about 2 quarts DOT4 fluid. It is a good periodic thing to do, not just once every 100,000...

As for chasing the factory vendors, good luck with that. Their legal beagles keep a tight leash on anything that could become evidence in a lawsuit.

Did mine. It was easy. Bleeding the brakes after was the hardest part.

Well right now I'm waiting for the parts from Falcon works and I'm planning on doing everything this weekend and sure enough the Rover can't wait. Normally the 3 lights will pop on when I turn the vehicle on and the brake doesn't do that shutter noise thing and if I restart the car it normally kicks in and now it wont even bother doing that brake shutter (what is it doing by the way?). Sometimes the lights come on when I start the car, other times it wont and the TC works fine.
